Gas geyser leaking water: finding the source
Water under a gas geyser comes from one of four places: the pressure relief valve, a pipe fitting, the drain valve, or the tank itself. The first three are usually simple repairs. A leak from the tank body, often with rust, normally means the tank has corroded through and the geyser needs replacing.
Do this first
- Turn the geyser knob to Off.
- Close the cold water inlet valve.
- If water is near the burner or electrics, keep away from them and dry the area safely.
- Then look for the source while the geyser cools.

Why tanks corrode
Tanks are protected by a sacrificial anode rod that corrodes instead of the steel. When it is used up, the tank itself starts rusting. Checking and replacing the anode rod every few years extends tank life, especially with hard or salty water common in parts of Pakistan.
A relief valve that drips is doing its job
If the relief valve releases water when the geyser is very hot, pressure or temperature is too high. Turn the thermostat down. Never plug or cap a relief valve; it prevents the tank bursting.
